About Peter C. Mancall
Peter C. Mancall is Distinguished Professor and the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of the Humanities at the University of Southern California, where he is also Professor of History, Anthropology, and Economics, and the Martens Director of the USC-Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute.
His newest book, Contested Continent: The Struggle for North America, c. 1000–1680 (Oxford University Press, 2026), is volume one of the Oxford History of the United States.
His other books include The Trials of Thomas Morton: An Anglican Lawyer, His Puritan Foes, and the Battle for a New England (Yale University Press, 2019) and Fatal Journey: The Final Expedition of Henry Hudson—A Tale of Mutiny and Murder in the Atlantic (Basic Books, 2009).
He has been the Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford, the Mellon Distinguished Lecturer in the Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Ritchie Distinguished Fellow at the Huntington Library.
