Matthijs Bouw is a Dutch architect and urbanist and founder of One Architecture & Urbanism, an award-winning Amsterdam and New York-based design and planning firm. He directs the Urban Resilience Certificate Program at the Weitzman School of Design (UPenn), where he is a professor of practice.
A co-leader of the BIG Team that won the Rebuild by Design competition for the flood protection of Manhattan, ONE is currently part of the multi-disciplinary teams executing the East Side Coastal Resiliency project, as well as planning and designing various other follow-up projects, such as the Lower Manhattan Coastal Protection project and the FiDi/Seaport Masterplan.
Pippa Brashear is the Planning Principal at SCAPE. A leading expert on resilience planning and climate adaptation, Pippa works with large, multi-disciplinary teams to develop landscape strategies and next-century infrastructure that integrate environmental, economic, and social benefits. Pippa currently leads many of SCAPE’s resilience projects including Climate Ready Dorchester, a neighborhood-scale resilience plan for the City of Boston; and the Design and Implementation phase of the Living Breakwaters for the New York State Governor’s office of storm recovery (GOSR), among others.
Edgar Westerhof: With over a century of experience protecting the notoriously flood-prone Dutch delta and coastline, Arcadis draws on its Dutch heritage and its global environmental and water expertise for resiliency and climate adaptation. Arcadis’ extensive flood protection track record in New York City includes the iconic resilience planning and design works for East Side Coastal Resilience and the Lower Manhattan & Financial District Master Plan.
Daniel Vasini is the Creative Director of West 8 NY, Architect and Urban Designer. Formed in 2007, West 8 NY is the North American branch of West 8, an award-winning urban design, landscape architecture and infrastructure office founded in Rotterdam in 1987. From the monumental coastal resilience strategies introduced on Governors Island to the intimate green oasis created at The Park at Essex Crossing, West 8 has been committed to crafting quality public spaces for the people of New York.
