TimeLens x NAHC Launch Event: Step into 1660 New Amsterdam—right where it once stood

What if you could walk through Lower Manhattan today and watch the streets, houses, gardens, waterways, and people of 1660 New Amsterdam appear around you?

TimeLens is a new immersive phone app, developed in partnership with the New Amsterdam History Center’s Mapping Early New York team, that brings the past into the present through 360° reconstructions in the palm of your hand.

TimeSpots in Lower Manhattan, with narrations by author Russell Shorto and evocative soundscapes, reveal Fort Amsterdam, the Wall and City Hall, the Kierstede House and its Indian Trading Area, the House of the Enslaved Workers, and other long-lost landmarks—drawing you into the commerce, architecture, and layered histories of the seventeenth-century city and the people who lived there.

TimeLens—New Amsterdam is an invitation to walk the earliest streets of Manhattan and become a New Amsterdammer yourself. Snap a selfie in your favorite TimeSpot and send it to your friends!
